Cerise Sauvage – Oh là là

The Wild Cherry team is now located on an island off the west coast off France! We are very much alive and kicking; please contact us if you are looking for a first class SALTO trainer to help you deliver all your objectives and ultimately reach the aim of your European project!

 Why Not?

Why not be world-class?
Why not be the best that only you can be?
Why not work smarter instead of harder?
Why not ask yourself deep thought provoking questions that will take you to the next level every day of your life?
Why not live in the stretch zone every day?
Why not learn a new skill?
Why not think bigger than ever before?
Why not set a great intention today and really go for it?
Why not begin with the end in mind? Feel it, see it and hear it as if it has already happened.
Why not do that difficult thing you have been putting off until today?
Why not pick up the phone and call someone you have never spoken to before?
Why not take action on something in your life that until now you have been putting on hold?
Why not step into fear and move past it?
Why not write a list of what you will no longer tolerate in your life?
Why not be brave and ask?
Why not change your environment today?

When we ask and challenge ourselves with the question why not, we open the inner doors in our minds to boundless possibility. We change how we think and feel and our life changes around us. (Molly Harvey)

Best wishes

It’s official! Wild Cherry Training is creative and innovative!

Language Integrated Content Kit (LICK) was at the heart of a 5-day professional development project in migration and employability, organised by Wild Cherry Training and Education in multicultural Leeds, in the north of England, in June 2013. The aim was to increase the capacity of individuals and organisations working in this field. Twenty-eight youth and community workers from Bulgaria, Spain, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the United Kingdom shared their experiences of supporting young people to access employment. They identified common barriers to employment and explored situations of under-employment where communities are prevented from fully utilising the skills available among migrants. Participants were supported by a multiskilled training team with experience in teaching English as a foreign language using non-formal learning methods — an innovative approach to language learning in context. This helped to avoid the ambiguity and misconceptions that can arise from cultural difference and impede shared understanding on issues relating to migration. The participants gained the knowledge, understanding and skills to pursue a topic relating to their national context while discussing the issues at European level. The results were improved communication skills, including advocacy, and intercultural and teamworking capacities. Feedback also recorded in Youthpass showed that, delivered in this way, the training became a source of empowerment for each participant — enabling them to make more of a difference in the lives of the young people they worked with.

Originally from Brazil, Liz has lived in the United Kingdom for 2½ years; she credited the LICK training with helping her find a job as a community support worker: ‘It helped me with my confidence and inspired me to apply for the job. Two months later I was working.’ ‘Everyone knows good communication is important, but our experience has shown that one of the biggest obstacles to successful international projects is where the people involved have poor English language skills’, said Sue Dudill, Director at Wild Cherry Training and Education. Wild Cherry Training and Education is a social enterprise that supports learners at national and transnational level to optimise their skills.

The training course was funded by the Youth in Action national agency in the United Kingdom.

What is the LICK concept?
LICK – Language Integrated Content Kits are international mobility projects based on non-formal education which are aimed at those supporting young people in the community. Our USP is that we explore a hot topic along with appropriate lexis in the English language.

Why has LICK been so successful?
It’s simple and the answer is because we fulfil a real need. This winning combination of learning helps participants to increase the capacity and potential of their organisations by removing communication barriers, thus assisting them to realise their developmental goals. We help them to gain clarity in a European context using learner-centred methodology, avoiding ambiguity and misconceptions based on cultural and language differences. By scaffolding a quality learning process which strengthens the confidence and resolve of the participants to work on a European level in their chosen topic, they create new and improved projects; a tangible, measurable outcome for all stakeholders.

Who produces and delivers the LICK programmes?
We take the strain out of the application process. Our innovative projects are produced in cooperation with partners on their chosen topic and delivered by a unique and dynamic international team who are all members of National Agency Trainers’ Pools and SALTO TOY trainers. They are also highly qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language with qualifications of a Master’s degree in English Linguistics and CELTA. This combination of skills and experience provides an unrivalled wealth of learning and support on a topic that is relevant to your organisation and in way that is both memorable and beneficial to you in your work on a European level.

The piece was written by one of the LICK participants, herself a first-class linguist and formidable young lady, Ana-Marija Karadjovska
